A method is the procedure or techniques to accomplish an end. So what is the end? The end result in the learning process is learning. So our methods are how we accomplish learning. This is an important key to my definition. I used the example of a PBS show as technological medium. In that statement, I specifically said “which facilitates learning”.

Watching a TV show does not count as a method because you are not necessarily learning. It is the way in which the material is being disseminated to the viewers that is the method. Is the author of the show using examples, charts and graphs, or simulations? When a airforce pilot trains in a flight simulator, he is learning through the methods of the simulation.

The method is the result of the designer. There is usually a level of interaction associated with methods (questions, illustrations, demonstration, etc.). Decision making options that lead to different results are also an example of learning methods.

Specifically, our method is a technique that enables understanding or the attainment of knowledge.
